A Clay bar is used in combination with a lubricant like Prima Glide is a simple yet essential process to safely remove embedded contaminants from the painted surface prior to waxing. Simply washing your vehicle is not an effective way of removing things like tar spots and road grime.
ZAS clay bars are available in 200gm and 100gm packs. The 200gm come as a 100gm twin pack and at less than $20 is the best value clay bar available.
HOW TO USE A CLAY BAR
Before you start claying:
- Wash and dry your vehicle
- Move the car indoors or out of direct sunlight
- Have all your equipment on hand and ready to go. You’ll need your clay bar, lubricant and microfibre towels. If you are using a large clay bar, like a 200g World’s Best Clay Bar you might like to cut it in half to use on separate occasions. ZAS Clay Bars come in a twin pack of 100g bars for this reason.
Now you are ready to clay.
- First you need to mould the clay. Using the warmth of your hands bend and fold the clay until it starts to become slightly softer. Create a flat object that fits in the palm of your hand.
- Lubricate a small section of the panel (approx. 500mmx500mm) with your spray ensuring the surface is well covered.
- Place the clay on the lubricated surface and gently work side to side. Avoid any circular movements. You will feel the contaminants grab as you slide the clay. As the surface becomes clean you will notice the clay glide freely.
- Next wipe any residue from the cleaned surface with your microfibre towel. Feeling the painted surface you will discover it feel silky smooth.
- Inspect the working surface of the clay. You will find that it has become covered in brown dots and smears from the surface contaminants on the paint. Wipe the surface of the clay clean, or if necessary re-fold and shape the clay to produce a new clean surface. You are now ready to move onto the next section and repeat the above steps.
- Once the entire vehicle has been completed mist your clay bar with some lubricant and store it in its plastic sleeve and back in its container. You may wish to wash and dry your vehicle again, ready for the next step in paint preparation.
